Infrared Emitters and Detectors

Side-looking Infrared Emitters and IR Detectors. These simple devices operate at 940nm and work well for generic IR systems including remote control and touch-less object sensing.

Using a simple ADC on any microcontroller will allow variable readings to be collected from the detector. The emitter is driven up to 50mA with a current limiting resistor as with any LED device. The detect is a NPN transistor that is biased by incoming IR light.

IR Receiver Interface Board

This is a very small IR receiver based on the TSOP85 receiver from Vishay. This receiver has all the filtering and 38kHz demodulation built into the unit.

Simply point a IR remote at the receiver, hit a button, and you'll see a stream of 1s and 0s out of the data pin.

Please note: This board does not come with a header installed.

Optical Detector / Phototransistor

This sensor uses an infrared emitted diode combined with an infrared phototransistor to detect the reflected infrared signal.

Ideal for sensing black-to-white transitions or can be used to detect nearby objects (.5-1cm).

Photo Interrupter CNZ1120

This sensor is composed of an infrared emitter on one upright and a shielded infrared detector on the other.

By emitting a beam of infrared light from one upright to the other, the sensor can detect when an object passes between the uprights, breaking the beam. Used for many applications including optical limit switches, pellet dispensing, general object detection, etc.

Programmable IR Receiver SIS-2

The SIS-2 monitors an IR receiver, and when a certain remote code is detected, an output pin will toggle. Two outputs are available and any code on any remote can be taught to the SIS-2. This makes it simple to implement an infrared (IR) remote controllable switching solution for a wide variety of applications. When used with an inexpensive IR receiver module, the SIS-2 recognizes IR signals from 2 independent IR remote control sources, and provides 2 modes of switching for your application.
