ooBug Educational Robot

The ooBug (pronounced oo-bug) is an Educational Competition Robot. It is a customizable and fun learning tool perfect for students, hobbyists and professionals with a robust set of features.

The "oo" stands for 'object oriented'. This unique feature make the ooBug very versatile and easy to program. The ooBug is produced from the same company (Savage Innovations) that brought us the popular ooPIC.

The ooBug is capable of competing in many different robotic events. It has many complex features that allow it to indicate its mood, hunger and overall condition. Your ooBug begins its life with a pre-installed behavior that shows its abilities. When you are ready you can simply upload or create new behaviors with the easy to use software.

Educators of all types find the ooBug to be an exceptional teaching toy. The ooBug allows students (and adults!) to have fun and compete while exploring many mathematical and scientific principles and no soldering is required.

The ooBug comes with a clear customizable body so children can decorate their robots and a competition is ran on the ooBug website for the best designed robot and at the end of each month a prize is given to the winner. A social networking site for ooBug users will also soon been online.

Biolab Software

Windows Vista Users - You must turn off the UAC prior to installing the BioLab Compiler. You can do this by the following:

Control Panel --> User Accounts --> Turn on/off UAC

Optionally you may install BioLab on a USB drive.

The BioLab software makes it incredibly easy for anyone, from to students to professional, to create and download behaviors to their ooBug robot.

Don't mistake ease of use for lack of power. The BioLab is a
multi-language comiler that no only programs in ooBug Basic, if you are a more advanced user it will allow you to also program in C, Java and Assembly syntax.

Where others stop at letting you only access their operating system BioLab gives you the entire chip to program and enjoy.

The BioLab software package comes with behavior files for each and every component of the ooBug. These basic behaviors will get you up and running in just a matter of minutes and when you are ready, you can start editing the behaviors or create your own!

The BioLab uses Object Oriented programming throughout. Objects can be viewed best as miniature programs that are already written for you. Each object has properties that you can adjust to suit your program and of course, all objects can be used together to create complex behaviors.

For developers, there is an expansion port located near the battery that will allow you to plug in your Microchip ICD-2 programmer and go to work. With all of the features of the Microchip Pic 24 development tools and more, you can work out real world programs and see the results immediately.
