Motor Mount and Wheel Kit
with Position Controller
Finally your robot can have the mobility and style it deserves! With the Motor Mount and Wheel Kit, powerful 12 VDC motors are combined with precisely machined aluminum hardware to provide the power, strength, and beauty demanded by your mid-sized robot. All custom parts are CNC machined in-house at Parallax headquarters in Rocklin, CA. The mounting block makes securing this kit a breeze; and the included 6 inch (15.3 cm) pneumatic rubber tires are durable enough to handle a variety of smooth or rugged terrains without hesitation. The included Position Controllers use a quadrature encoder system to reliably track the position and speed of each wheel and report the data on demand.
The caster wheel kit is the utmost in quality and performance. It features precision machined 6061 aluminum parts combined with high quality ball bearings and durable 3-inch Du-Bro pneumatic rubber tyres. The dual independent tire design reduces vibration and drag, while also increasing its load-carrying capacity. You will be amazed at how smoothly and silently these caster wheels roll.
Cheaper alternatives often use stamped sheet metal bearing tracks which tend to be sloppy and can easily clog up with dirt and grit. This caster wheel kit uses precision shielded ball bearings, making the kit completely maintenance-free for long life and consistently high performance.
Versatility, durability and simplicity all in one box! The 7.2V Motor, Bracket and Wheel Kit (#570-00070) features lightweight and sturdy aluminum brackets which are specifically designed to make mounting the included 7.2 VDC motors a breeze. Each bracket is machined in-house at Parallax headquarters in Rocklin, CA. The brackets are machined from 6063 aluminum extrusion and anodized black for improved scratch resistance and aesthetic appeal.
High quality 7.2 Volt DC motors feature durable construction, and 100% all-metal gears that stand up boldly to rough terrain and abuse.
Each Position Controller uses a quadrature encoder system to reliably track the position and speed of a wheel at all times. With the included plastic encoder disk, the Position Controller has a resolution of 36 positions per rotation; this equates to approximately 0.5 inches of linear travel per position using 6-inch tires (not included).
The Position Controller calculates and reports position and average speed data on command. This leaves the main processor free to handle more important tasks like reading GPS coordinates, processing sensor information, and maneuvering complex environments.
Stepper motors are ideal for precision control, and may be easily operated in forward and reverse directions at varying speeds. This four-phase motor has a step angle of 7.5 degrees and requires 12 VDC for operation. This Stepper Motor is ideal for experimentation, proof of concept, and learning bout stepper motor control. It is used and included in the StampWorks Experiment Kit.
