Pager Motor Style 2

These new, factory-fresh (not surplus!) motors are comparable in performance and quality to the originals. The only major difference is the lack of a steel sleeve on the 1mm diameter output shaft. Don't worry - if you need a 1.5mm diameter shaft, we've found that 18 gauge wire insulation slips on and makes a very suitable bushing!

Tiny Pager Motor Style 2

Pager motor technology has made it easier for us to find a suitable replacement for the original TPM for substantially less!

Want to build something itty bitty? Try these: Just 4mm (0.158") diameter and an overall length of 16.4mm (0.65") with an output shaft diameter of 0.66mm (0.026").

Performance at 1.5V is 12.4mA unloaded (36.8mA stall) at 10,100RPM. At 3V, current is 17.6mA free (73mA stall) at 20300RPM! And just for fun, 5V give 20.3mA free (117mA stall) at 32,500RPM! It's weaker than the 7mm RPM2, but at this size, that's an acceptable trade-off!

Vibrating Pager Motor 2

The original VPM was a wonderful motor, so when it went out of production, we just had to find a replacement for it.

At 12mm dia x 3.4mm thick (1/2"dia. x 0.134"), it's a bit smaller, but still packs a wallop by giving 1G vibration at 12,000rpm from 3V, drawing less than 80mA.

Did we mention that it also comes with a premounted sticky-tape strip on the backside? Which makes it ready to attach to your latest vibebot.

Standard Motor

This 030 form-factor motor with precious-metal brushes offers pretty good performance for a flat-sided motor. Offering 7400 rpm @ 4.7V, drawing 150mA and giving 4 gm*cm torque (17 @ stall), it's very similar to the Mabuchi FF-030 it replaces.

We're finding it runs a bit longer per solarengine discharge than the old motor, and the 1.5mm output shaft is a perfect match for our RW 10mm diameter wheels. A touch of glue, and you've got an excellent tilted wheel platform (like for Herbie robots)! And if you need a friction fit, the included RW "PRet" (Plastic retainer) you get with the RW wheels press-fits on too.

Standard Motor 2

This high-power motor fits in the GM2/3/8/9 series of gear motors, offering approximately 3 times the speed, twice the torque and quadruple the power-draw! Retrofitting the gear motor is easy - just remove the motor retainer strap, transfer the pinion gear, and reinstall - that's it!

NOTE: Be forewarned - we're not kidding about the increase in power requirements and output! This motor eats batteries quickly!

Gear Motor 2 224:1 Offset Shaft

This 224:1 gearmotor is very comparable to a hobby servo for power, at a fraction of the cost!

This motor offers 50 in.oz of torque, rotating 360 degrees every 1.6 seconds (38 rpm just a hair slower than a servo), at 5V, drawing 600mA at stall (free running at 52mA).

These units have an overall size of 55mm x 48mm x 23mm thick, while only weighing 37grams.

This particular motor is hackable from 224:1 to 14:1. Details here!

Gear Motor 3 224:1 90° Shaft

This model differs from the GM2 in that it has a 90 degree output shaft.

This motor offers 50 in.oz of torque, rotating 360 degrees every 1.6 seconds (38 rpm - just a hair slower than a servo), at 5V, drawing 600mA at stall (free running at 52mA).

Overall dimensions are 70mm long x 22.5mm x 37mm including output shafts, while only weighing 37grams.

Gear Motor 4 - Clear Servo

These unique gear motors are actually clear-case servos with continuous-rotation ability. No circuit board means you get a cheap, robust, servo-shaped motor with brass bushings on the output shaft.

Solarbotics GM4
Limited-Rotation Output Gear

This output gear changes the GM4 from continuous rotation to limited rotation.

The GM4 has continuous-rotation output, but sometimes you need to have a rotation limit, like with a regular servo. This output gear replaces the stock GM4 output gear, returning the GM4 to 210 degree rotation.

Gear Motor 6 120:1 "Baby GM2"

This gear motor starts rotation at 0.58 volts, turning 7RPM drawing only 46.5mA. At 5 volts, this unit really humms, spinning at 145RPM and drawing 88mA no-load (610mA stall producing 20in*oz torque). We've successfully used these units very well on solarengine circuits.

Solarbotics Gear Motor 7
120:1 "Baby GM3"

The GM7 is a baby version of our popular right-angle drive GM3 gear motor.

This gear motor starts rotation at 0.58 volts, turning 7RPM drawing only 46.5mA. At 5 volts, this unit really humms, spinning at 145RPM and drawing 88mA no-load (610mA stall producing 20in.oz torque).

These motors have an overall size of 53mm x 13mm x 19mm, and weigh in at only 20 grams. A tidy package, with pretty good power!

GM2/GM8 Gear Motor Bracket, Laser-Cut Steel

The GM2/GM8 gear motors have convenient holes for mounting, but these precision laser-cut steel brackets add to their versatility!

The provided mounting holes in the GM2/GM8 gear motors are a convenient way to mount these to your project, but sometimes you just need a different way to mount them. These precision laser-cut steel brackets match the features on the gear motor, and securely clamp them down to your project.

Use any #4-sized screw or nut/bolt for assembly, but we use special #4x1/2" screw designed for threading plastic to mount these to our chassis. This screw also does a great job going into the steel bracket!

Geared Pager Motor

This pager gear motor is geared 81:1 spins at 370 RPM and draws 24.6mA (184mA stall) at 5V giving 3.6in.oz.

These little gear motors measure 1" wide, 0.564" thick, 1.135" long and weigh in at 5 grams. The square output shaft measures 0.14" per side.

Wheel Watcher Spacer
for GM2/3

Due to the longer shaft lengths on the GM2 and GM3, the encoder wheel reflector is a bit too far away from the sensors on the Wheel Watcher. Use this spacer to bring the reflector back into range.

Gear Motor 17 - 228:1 HE Offset Shaft

This gearmotor is designed for low-voltage power-efficiency, but it isn't scared of generating a bit of torque. And the output shaft is shaped just like the GM2/3/8/9 for full accessory compatibility!

It's a small, slow, power-efficient but torquey motor, weighing in at only 35g (1.23oz)! It's a bit bigger than its more powerful brethren, measuring in at 46.7mm (1.84") long, 27.2mm (1.07") wide, and 32.1mm deep (1.26") excluding shaft.

GM2/3/8/9/17 Gear Motor Mounts

These new hard plastic wheels are specially designed for our GM2, GM3, GM8, GM9 and GM17 gear motor output shafts. Although usable as wheels, we often use these as mounts for legs and other mechanisms as they have convenient mounting holes that match our leg mounting pads.

They are 30mm in diameter, 7mm wide, and the double-flat slot fits onto the gear motor's shaft snuggly.

Wheels are sold individually, and come with a screw and washer to secure it. Motor not included.

GM11a/12a/13a/14a Mounting Screw/Bolt

This 1.7 (dia) x 0.35 (mm/thd) x 4mm long bolt exactly matches the unique thread on the two bolt-holes on the faceplates of the GM11a, GM12a, GM13a, and GM14a gear motors. If you are looking for a way to precisely mount your motor, these bolts make the job much easier!

You may ask, "What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?"

It's generally accepted that a fastener that has a defined number of threads-per-inch (1.6 per millimeter, in this case) and a consistant diameter all the way is a bolt, named by the threads-per-inch (or millimeter) by the length (1.6 per millimeter, x 4mm long).
A screw usually tapers to a sharp point, and is usually named after the general screw diameter number, and length (#4 x 1.5" for example).

Solarbotics Planetary Gear Pager Motor

Looking for a tiny gear motor? Only from Solarbotics comes the GM15, measuring under 6mm (0.235") diameter, with an overall length of 20.1mm (0.79"), which is smaller than many pager motors! The output shaft is grooved for a 1.5mm radius belt, but we've easily modified it to mate with our 10mm RW wheel (drilled out to 0.086"). They weigh only 1.3grams!

It's designed for 3V nominal operation, giving 920RPM drawing 100mA. At stall, you get over 0.49in*oz or 35.28gm*cm of torque! We're quite excited about these motors; they're quality made, inexpensive, and tiny! We expect to see lots of nano-sumo robots (25mm cube, or one cubic inch!) built out of these...

Solarbotics 35:1 High Power Mini Metal Gear Motor

This is a bit of a strange "big brother" to our popular series of Sanyo-style series of motors. It shares a similar shape and appearance, but it has a strange gearbox twist, and a suitably larger gearbox!

The 35:1 gear head is larger than the other Sany-style gearboxes and also has a bigger, beefier 030 form-factor motor (like our own RM1a motors). This means you've got a strong, low-reduction gearhead for speed, and a strong motor for powering it. It's a beast of a little motor!

100:1 Mini Metal Sealed Gear Motor

If you are as much of a fan of the Solarbotics mini metal gearboxes as we are, you'll be pleased to know we've just brought in a nice complement to family - the GM20!

The performance of the GM20 makes it fit between the GM11a and GM12a, but more notablyl, it has a sealed gearbox. No more cat whiskers getting caught in the gearworks! No more cleaning out dust-bunnies and re-lubricating with exotic muskox oil! And it makes the gearbox even more resistant to side-loads

360:1 Mini Metal Sealed Gear Motor

The 360:1 Mini Metal Gear Motor looks much like our other mini metal gear motors, except the motor is longer. And the gearing is in an enclosed cylindrical casing!

Even more interesting are the motor characteristics. This compact brute of a gear motor offers a measured stall torque of 103 In*oz (7434gm*cm) at 6V - thats considerable! Of course, with something this small, we trade the increase in torque for a decrease in speed - it's among the slowest spinning motors we carry, turning at a lazy 23RPM at 6V.

298:1 Mini Metal Sealed Gear Motor

The GM22 mini metal sealed gear motor is the same form-factor of its siblings, but it has far more torque - almost twice as much as the GM14a at 3V! Did we mention it also has a sealed gearbox?

Offering 40 in*oz (2884 gms*cm) of torque at 3V, it's a real finger twister - ideal for high-torque solar-powered (or 2AA) applications. And with a sealed gearbox, it makes it ideal for building Turbot tumbling robots, which usually stir up all sorts of dust and grime.
